Welcome to broke down barn. Here you will find handmade lampwork glass bead and sterling silver jewelry created by artist Ashley Watson of Lexington, Kentucky. Glass rods are heated in a torch flame to create each bead you see. All of my beads are kiln-annealed for strength and durability. Photosensitive glass and vitreous enamels are used for the one-of-a-kind work.
Not only is this website is a place for me to showcase and sell my art, it also chronicles my 7 year struggle to save my family’s farm. I see them as a joint venture, with the $ made invested into a future farm fund and to help fund the animal rescue work I do today. It’s a true story, all the names and faces you see are real, with exact locations of different sections of the farm shown on the navigation map. broke down barn is a metaphor for the slow deterioration of the farm and the family, generation after generation until it’s present time breaking point with a possible auction by the end of the year.
My work is inspired by this historic place, and I hope that one day what is broke down can be rebuilt. Future goals include moving the art studio to this land, and opening a farm sanctuary for other wise neglected and abused “food” animals that have escaped the slaughterhouse. You can click the shop now button and you will be directly taken to the online store. Here you will find all of my lampwork glass bead and jewelry creations. New work will be added often.
Please sign up for my mailing list to be notified when new work is added.
If you would like to join me on my adventure and learn more about the people and places that make up my family’s farm, click on the navigational map or the family photographs to learn more. I will be updating current farm events in the farm journal and in a few month’s you should be able to view a movie about the farm.
